Thomas Quasthoff is a living legend. He was one of Germany’s most renowned opera and lieder singers before bringing his extraordinary career to a close in 2012, after receiving three Grammy Awards and seven Echo Awards. Yet the stage never let go of him. Discovering new talents within himself, he has since appeared as a narrator, cabaret artist, presenter, and even actor.

Friends reintroduced him to jazz, a genre he had loved since his earliest youth. The microphone became his instrument. Stars such as Dieter Ilg, Wolfgang Haffner, Nils Landgren, and Bill Evans became his companions in jazz. During his years as a professor of vocal studies in Detmold, he came to know “Shawn & The Wolf”, and a new friendship was born: singer Thomas Quasthoff, trombonist Shawn Grocott, and guitarist Wolfgang Meyer form an unusual ensemble whose jazz arrangements are constantly being reinvented.
