ELEANOR LYONS | Role debut as Rusalka in Brisbane

Two major operatic debuts await the Australian soprano Eleanor Lyons this summer; she also demonstrated her stylistic versatility in early May as part of the annual ‘Fest der Freunde’ with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra: At Opera Queensland in Brisbane, Australia, she will make her debut as Rusalka in Antonín Dvořák’s eponymous opera, thereby adding to her repertoire a role that particularly showcases the lyrical warmth and richness of her voice. Dvořák’s classic tale of longing, self-sacrifice and the tragic consequences of unrequited love will be directed by Sarah Giles, one of Australia’s most distinguished stage directors, whose interpretation focuses less on the fairy-tale elements and more on questions of identity, belonging and self-discovery…

Her role debut in Brisbane will be followed in July by another personal highlight of this summer: the role of Tatiana in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin at the Southwest Opera in Perth.
