Baritone Georg Nigl makes a strong artistic statement on the 2025 summer festival scene. With appearences at the Salzburg Festival, he embodies the central character of Jean-Charles in Hans Werner Henze's oratorio The Raft of the Medusa. Under the baton of Ingo Metzmacher, Nigl impresses with a haunting portrayal of accusation and despair.
At the Carinthian Summer festival, he performs a touching song recital in the Stiftskirche Ossiach: together with actress Birgit Minichmayr and pianist Olga Pashchenko, he dedicates himself to songs by Beethoven and Schubert as well as texts about the Carinthian artist Maria Lassnig - a quiet, moving evening between music and poetry.
Georg Nigl can also be seen at the Munich Opera Festival in an extraordinary recital: The Last Days of Humanity brings him together with actor Nicholas Ofczarek (recitation) and Vladimir Jurowski at the piano. In this impressive programme, song, text and music combine to create a sombre reflection on the end times, language and the state of the world - an evening full of existential tension and musical clarity.
In Salzburg, Nigl continues to develop the successful series ‘Nachtmusiken’ - a chamber music format with clavichordist Alexander Gergelyfi and actor August Diehl. Programmes such as Abendempfindung, To be or not to be, a Schubert evening and Schubert's Schöne Müllerin combine music, literature and silence to create intimate night-time experiences.
Finally, his journey takes him to the Bremen Music Festival, where he presents a musical-literary salon in the historic town hall - together with clavichordist Alexander Gergelyfi and actor Sven-Eric Bechtolf. As in Salzburg, Nigl combines the art of song and language in this chamber music form to create an evening full of concentrated poetry and subtle nuances.
Nigl demonstrates himself to be an artist who dissolves the boundaries between music, language and scene - precise, poetic, gripping.
