One of the most distinctive baritones of our time, Georg Nigl can be heard this and next weekend in an extraordinary programme at the Brucknerhaus Linz and the Vienna Musikverein. Together with mezzo-soprano Kate Lindsey and Concentus Musicus Wien under the baton of Stefan Gottfried, he will be performing a serenade programme featuring “nocturnal” Mozart arias from Così fan tutte, Le nozze di Figaro and Don Giovanni. Nigl, internationally acclaimed for his captivating stage presence and his ability to illuminate characters with psychological finesse, combines historical sound aesthetics with modern expressiveness.
Concentus Musicus, the legendary period ensemble founded by Nikolaus Harnoncourt that still influences performance style to this day, creates the ideal setting for this project with excerpts from serenades, including Eine kleine Nachtmusik. The historically informed performance style makes Mozart's music appear transparent and fresh, while Nigl's unmistakable voice opens up a new perspective on familiar arias. In Kate Lindsey, he has found the ideal partner for such an exciting project.
