JEREMY OVENDEN performs Handel’s Theodora at Vienna’s Konzerthaus

As part of the opening of this year’s “Resonanzen” festival at Vienna’s Konzerthaus, Handel’s penultimate oratorio Theodora, which deals with subjects such as the cult of the state, insubordination and martyrdom, will be performed at the Konzerthaus for only the second time in its history. The choral and orchestral ensemble Arcangelo, one of the younger ensembles dedicated to historically informed performance practice, makes its house debut: founded by Jonathan Cohen in 2010, the orchestra has played its way to the top of the British original-sound charts. Its interpretation of Handel’s Theodora as part of the 2018 BBC Proms was celebrated by audience and critics alike as a highlight of the spectacular festival. Jeremy Ovenden, who was heard only a few months ago in Vienna in the title role of Mozart’s La clemenza di Tito at the Theater an der Wien, here takes on the role of Septimus.
