With Nikola Hillebrand, Jeremy Ovenden and David Steffens, three artists from the Machreich-Roster complete the top-class soloist ensemble of the upcoming ‘Scenes from Goethe's Faust’ by Robert Schumann, which will be performed on 13, 14 and 15 June by the Orquesta y Coro Nacionales de España under the direction of its chief conductor David Afkham at the end of the orchestra's season. It is a philosophically profound work, rightly regarded as the high point of Schumann's Romanticism, which he wrote in a period between 1844 and 1853 interspersed with longer creative breaks and which, based on Goethe's ‘Faust’, deals with redemption, human longing and the striving for the higher, using the most sublimated tonal language.
