SABINE DEVIEILHE & ADRIAN ERÖD | Der Rosenkavalier

After Sabine Devieilhe’s highly praised interpretation of Sophie last autumn at Milan’s La Scala, which “exuded both naïveté and exuberance, embodying a blend of dignity and vulnerability”, the renowned French soprano is welcomed again to the stage of the Vienna State Opera to reprise the role.

Der Rosenkavalier is touching in its special mixture of wistfulness and pain, sadness and humour, with which Hugo von Hofmannsthal imbued the libretto and which Richard Strauss set to music enchantingly. Sabine Devieilhe’s ethereal, silvery soprano is a perfect fit for the lively, charming role of Sophie.

Fellow Machreich Artist Adrian Eröd is also no stranger to the role of Herr von Faninal, having evolved with the role since his first performances in 2013. While extremely familiar with the nuances of the role and this timeless production by Otto Schenk from 1968, Eröd continues to receive acclaim for his striking presence and distinctive performance.

With this incredibly strong cast of singers, audiences will not want to miss the reprisal of this timeless work.
