Recital partners Sabine Devieilhe and Mathieu return this January to some of Europe’s most prominent recital stages including Tivoli Vredenburg in Utrecht, London’s Wigmore Hall, the Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlin, the Philharmonie de Luxembourg, Theatre de Compiègne, the opera houses in Lyon and Bordeaux, and the Opéra du Rhin in Strasbourg.
This time, the pair bring a new programme, which Viennese audience had the privilege of witnessing last season at the Wiener Konzerthaus, featuring highly diverse compositions by Josef Hader, Jacqueline Mani, Schubert, Liszt, Strauss and Edvard Grieg into a cycle of ‘lullabies’. Not only creating an intriguing path of discovery amid a mix of more familiar pieces (and small surprises), the programme is also curated in such a way that the keys harmonise with each other, allowing the duo to seamlessly transition from one to the next.
This harmonisation is also felt through in the joint artistry on stage. It is Devieilhe’s complete vocal mastery, which she uses to convey such moving messages, together with Pordoy’s deep understanding of the voice and his ability to capture the tone so perfectly (be it in romantic lieder or French chanson) which leave audiences wanting more.
As described succinctly by the critic Wilhelm Sinkovicz “it reminds us of the heights to which song can soar when the joy of pure, beautiful sound is combined with intellectual interpretation. Such a balancing act was not commonplace even in the past, but today it has become an absolute rarity.”
Remaining tickets for the recitals are still up for grabs via the links shown.
