Thomas Quasthoff kicks off the summer and the summer holidays with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra at the fourth edition of the Prater Picnic, an open-air event in which the renowned orchestra performs with singers from the fields of classical, jazz, pop and folk music. Thomas Quasthoff will perform ‘Sinatra songs’ such as ‘It was a very good year’ and ‘Witchcraft’.
Those who miss the event in person can catch the concert on ORF2 here.
As the only soloist, he will perform a full-length ‘Sinatra programme’ together with the Neue Philharmonie Frankfurt and his long-standing musical accompanists, jazz pianist Simon Oslender and guitarist Wolfgang Meyer, as part of the Rheingau Festival at the Kurhaus Wiesbaden. He will also be awarded the prestigious Rheingau Music Prize in connection with the concert.
Prior to this, Thomas Quasthoff will perform with jazz trumpeter Rüdiger Baldauf at the Wetzlaer Festspiele and then with the unusual formation: guitar (Wolfgang Meyer) and trombone (Shawn Grocott) at the Schlosshofkonzerte Tübingen.
In August, he will return to Gmunden with the trio and Simon Oslender to perform again at the Salzkammergut Festival with his programme ‘My Favourite Songs’.
The Thomas Quasthoff Quartet, also with Simon Oslender and jazz greats Wolfgang Haffner and DIeter Ilg, can be heard in Stade and Kiel as part of the Schleswig Holstein Music Festival.
Thomas Quasthoff and the Amatis Trio will conclude the summer at Corvey Castle with the extraordinary programme ‘Humanity in War’.
