ANTONELLO MANACORDA conducts La Traviata at The Met

Hailed by the New York Times for his 2019 Met debut for delivering a ‘polished’ Nozze di Figaro that ‘cohered and charmed’, Antonello Manacorda turns his attention this time to a work he is equally familiar with: Verdi’s La Traviata. Tony Award–winning director Michael Mayer conjures a dreamy setting that matches the poetry and passion of the unforgettable score.

Continuously characterised by his sensitivity to those artists with whom he makes music, Antonello Manacorda demonstrated this in his most recent nuanced interpretation of Verdi’s masterpiece at the Royal Opera House earlier this season. The reviews speak for themselves:

Joining Antonello Manacorda in the lead role of Violetta Valéry is lyric coloratura soprano Lisette Oropesa, with whom he has collaborated closely on several occasions, most recently for the new production of Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda at the Salzburg Festival in 2025.
