A “natural melodist” (Der Tagesspiegel), who excels at bringing the intricacy of his stylistically informed interpretations to the big orchestral apparatus. More, a true orchestral specialist, merging a sheer creative force with a highly collaborative performance style. Antonello Manacorda’s versatility as a conductor is rooted in the richness of his musical and cultural background: born into an French-Italian family in Turin, educated in Amsterdam and a longtime Berlin resident, Manacorda was a founding member and longstanding concertmaster of Claudio Abbado’s Mahler Chamber Ochestra, before studying under legendary Finnish conductor Jorma Panula. Today Antonello Manacorda performs at both the world’s most renowned opera houses as well as at the helm of internationally renowned symphony orchestras. At the heart of his work is the Kammerakademie Potsdam – an ensemble he has shaped as its Artistic Director since 2010 and with whom he has produced a series of award-winning recordings.
Opera productions in the current and upcoming seasons will take Antonello Manacorda to the Stuttgart State Opera (Il trovatore), the Royal Opera House Covent Garden (Les Contes d'Hoffmann), the Zurich Opera (Nozze di Figaro) and the Opéra National de Paris (Pelléas et Mélisande).
Among the highlights of his symphonic calendar in the 2024/25 season are guest appearances with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Together with the Kammerakademie Potsdam, he will perform a concert version of Weber's Freischütz in Potsdam, at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées in Paris, the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden and the Berlin Philharmonie.
In recent seasons, Antonello Manacorda has collaborated with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Berlin Philharmonic, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig and the SWR Symphony Orchestra, among others. The conductor has enjoyed resounding success with his debuts at the Metropolitan Opera in New York (Le Nozze di Figaro), a new production of Dmitri Tcherniakov's Der Freischütz at the Bavarian State Opera, his debut at the Semperoper Dresden (Der Freischütz) and a new production of Bizet's Carmen at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden.
With the Kammerakademie Potsdam, Antonello Manacorda has recorded both a Mendelssohn cycle and a Schubert cycle for Sony Classical, both of which received critical acclaim. In 2015, the ensemble received the ECHO Klassik award in the "Orchestra of the Year" category for the cycle of all Schubert symphonies, while in October 2022 they were awarded the OPUS KLASSIK in the same category for their recording of the last Mozart symphonies. In the same month, the ensemble released its latest recording with Antonello Manacorda - Beethoven Symphonies Nos. 1, 2 and 7 - the prelude to a complete recording of the composer’s entire symphonic works, which have long played a central role in the Kammerakademie Potsdam's concert repertoire.
