A “natural melodist” (Der Tagesspiegel), who excels at bringing the intricacy of his stylistically informed interpretations to the big orchestral apparatus. What’s more, a true orchestral specialist who merges a creative artistic force with a highly collaborative performance style. Antonello Manacorda’s versatility as a conductor is rooted in the richness of his musical and cultural background: born into a French-Italian family in Turin, educated in Amsterdam and a longtime Berlin resident, Manacorda was a founding member and longstanding concertmaster of Claudio Abbado’s Mahler Chamber Orchestra, before studying under legendary Finnish conductor Jorma Panula. Today Antonello Manacorda performs at both the world’s most renowned opera houses as well as at the helm of internationally renowned symphony orchestras. At the heart of his work is the Kammerakademie Potsdam – an ensemble he has shaped as its Artistic Director since 2010 and with whom he has produced a series of award-winning recordings.
Antonello Manacorda celebrated his opera debut at the Salzburg Festival in 2025 with Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda. Opera productions in the upcoming season will take him to the Opéra national de Paris (Nozze di Figaro), the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and the Metropolitan Opera (both La Traviata), and to the Deutsche Oper Berlin for a new production of Lortzing’s Zar und Zimmermann.
Among the highlights of his symphonic calendar in the 2025/26 season are guest appearances with the Orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Les Siècles, The Cleveland Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic and Danish National Symphony Orchestra.
In recent seasons, Antonello Manacorda has collaborated with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Berlin Philharmonic, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, the SWR Symphony Orchestra and The Cleveland Orchestra, among others.
His most recent successes include his debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York (Le Nozze di Figaro), a new production of Der Freischütz at the Bavarian State Opera, his debut at the Semperoper Dresden (Der Freischütz), and a new production of Bizet's Carmen and Les Contes d’Hoffmann at the Royal Opera House. His debut at the Zurich Opera House with was with Mozart's Nozze di Figaro, while at the Opera de Paris he conducted a new production of Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande. Together with the Kammerakademie Potsdam, he brought Weber's Der Freischütz to the stage in an acclaimed concert version on tour in Potsdam, at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées in Paris, the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden and the Berlin Philharmonie.
With the Kammerakademie Potsdam, Antonello Manacorda has recorded both a Mendelssohn cycle and a Schubert cycle for Sony Classical, both of which received critical acclaim. In 2015, the ensemble received the ECHO Klassik award in the "Orchestra of the Year" category for the cycle of all Schubert symphonies, while in October 2022 they were awarded the OPUS KLASSIK in the same category for their recording of the last Mozart symphonies. In the same month, the ensemble released its latest recording with Antonello Manacorda - Beethoven Symphonies Nos. 1, 2 and 7 - the prelude to a complete recording of the composer’s entire symphonic works, which have long played a central role in the Kammerakademie Potsdam's concert repertoire. The complete cycle of all Beethoven symphonies was released by Sony Classical in May 2024.
