OLIVIA VERMEULEN | New Year's Eve concert with the Freiburger Barockorchester

Dutch mezzo-soprano Olivia Vermeulen is one of the most versatile artists of her time, far beyond historically informed performance practice. She is a familiar face to the Freiburger Barockorchester and its audience as a regular soloist in concerts with René Jacobs. In 2024, she sang La Musica in Monteverdi's L'Orfeo with dignity and colour, and a few months ago she lent dramatic depth to the role of Idamante in Mozart's Idomeneo. On both occasions, she received rapturous applause from audiences in Freiburg and Berlin.

Her solo albums ‘Dirty Minds’, ‘Hello Darkness’ and ‘In Heaven’ (released last November) on the Challenge Classics label, recorded with Jan Philip Schulze on piano, also received enthusiastic reviews from the international press.

The Freiburger Barockorchester is therefore delighted to present Olivia Vermeulen as soloist at its New Year's Eve concert in 2025. With a colourful, cross-epochal programme ranging from George Frideric Handel to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and into the 20th century, the mezzo-soprano will be able to impressively demonstrate her stylistic range and at the same time give the ensemble the opportunity to show its modern side ...
