Franz Lehár's operetta The Merry Widow was a worldwide success in 1905, not least thanks to its catchy tunes "Da geh' ich ins Maxim", the "Vilja" song and "Lippen schweigen". In addition to the classic waltz and polka, the composer also added dances such as the polonaise, kolo and cake walk, putting The Merry Widow at the pinnacle of the dance operetta genre.
Known and internationally recognised for his vocal versatility and impressive performance ability, Adrian Eröd is now taking on the role of Count Danilo in a new production staged by Bernd Mottl at the Cologne Opera, a role he has already performed at the Semperoper in Dresden. He will be accompanied by the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne under the baton of the Aalto Music Theatre Essen’s new General Music Director, Andrea Sanguineti.
