Following his debut at this year's Bregenz Festival as Kaspar in Philip Stölzl's interpretation of Weber's Der Freischütz, David Steffens returns to the opera stage in the same role at his home theatre in Stuttgart, this time as part of a revival of Achim Freyer's 1980 production, which has blossomed over the decades from a veritable scandal to a cult production.
At the same time, he is already rehearsing for his role debut as Jochanaan in Strauss' Salome under the direction of Tomáš Hanus and in the Kirill Serebrennikov production from 2015, in which the excesses of a hedonistic, authoritarian society affect the next generation, and love as a potential way out of violence leads to radical possessiveness.
We wish David Steffens a big ToiToiToi for both productions!
