DAVID STEFFENS at the Salzburg Festival

After his successful debut in Carl Maria von Weber’s Der Freischütz in Strasbourg and his house debut at Dresden’s Semper Opera as the Commendatore in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, the rising bass David Steffens returns to this year’s Salzburg Festival as well: apart from the revival of the highly acclaimed 2018 production of Salome, he also appears on four evenings in a new production of George Enescu’s Œdipe, a tragédie lyrique first performed in Paris in 1936 which will be directed by Achim Freyer and conducted by Ingo Metzmacher. Right after the Festival summer, two major role debuts await him at his home base, the Stuttgart State Opera: Escamillo in Bizet’s Carmen and Oroveso in Bellini’s Norma.
