DAVID STEFFENS at the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg, in St. Pölten, Berlin and Stuttgart

After an intense season including several role debuts, for example Pimen in Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov, and his house debut at the Dutch National Opera, the coming weeks bring a diverse range of concert projects for the German bass David Steffens. First comes Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony at the Festspielhaus St. Pölten, where Yutaka Sado conducts the Tonkünstler Orchestra of Lower Austria. The Australian director Yaron Lifschitz has devised a choreography for ten artistes, so that the performance also includes an “acrobatic score”.

Following an ensemble evening at the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg, David Steffens will be heard in a debut at the Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlin, singing the solo in Schoenberg’s Serenade Op. 24 under the baton of Thomas Guggeis.

The season ends for David Steffens with Mephisto in Schumann’s Scenes from Goethe’s Faust in Ludwigsburg and at the Liederhalle in Stuttgart; as a recitalist, he also joins the tenor Ronan Caillet and the pianist Malte Schäfer in a recital curated by the International Hugo Wolf Academy Stuttgart, performing Hugo Wolf songs (“The Complete Hugo Wolf XIV”).
