ELEANOR LYONS | Role debut as Leonore (Fidelio) in Madrid

Eleanor Lyons has already made an international name for herself in recent years as an interpreter of Beethoven's vocal works such as the Ninth Symphony, the oratorio ‘Christus am Ölberge’ and his magnum opus ‘Missa Solemnis’, not least as part of extensive concert tours with the Orchestre des Champs-Élysées under the direction of Philippe Herreweghe. The Hamburger Abendblatt even ran the headline ‘What an incredible voice’ after a concert in Hamburg's Elbphilharmonie with Beethoven's Missa Solemnis.

Having already sung excerpts of Leonore in Beethoven's only stage work under Simone Young in Sydney, Eleanor Lyons now takes on this prominent female figure, who stands for courage for heroic action and self-sacrificing spousal love like no other, for the first time in its entirety in two semi-staged performances with the Orquesta y Coro Nacionales de España on 20 and 22 September 2024.

The Spanish director Helena Pimenta is responsible for the semi-staged production, with the Orquesta y Coro Nacionales de España conducted by its chief conductor David Afkham.
