Every year since 2008, the Budapest Festival Orchestra and Müpa Budapest have organised a full-day marathon focusing on the oeuvre of a particular composer in a series of consecutive concerts. After monothematic focuses on Tchaikovsky, Dvořák, Beethoven, Schubert, Mozart, Bartók, Bach, Stravinsky, Mendelssohn and Schumann, Brahms, Bernstein and the music of America, Debussy and Ravel, then Beethoven again and the Liszt and Berlioz marathon which was cancelled due to the pandemic, this season's programme now includes selected works by Richard Strauss.
After her successful house debut as Puccini's Mimì at the Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp and Ghent, Eleanor Lyons will be heard in Strauss' "Vier letzte Lieder" under the baton of Iván Fischer and his Budapest Festival Orchestra. The concert on 22 January in the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall will conclude this varied all-day Richard Strauss programme and will be streamed live on both the Müpa and Budapest Festival Orchestra websites.
