GEORG NIGL celebrates his role debut as Klingsor

Georg Nigl celebrated his Wagner debut two years ago in February 2023 as Alberich in a concert version of Siegfried with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under Sir Simon Rattle, for which he received acclaim in the press:

‘An unexpectedly bel cantesque Alberich was delivered by Georg Nigl, (...). In contrast to the usual rough, dark voices, Nigl impressed with a light, high-pitched and powerful baritone, which freed the character from his clichés and made him appear more youthful, fresh and human.’ 

‘With this role, the baritone Georg Nigl expanded his range of characters in an expressive and crystal-clear manner to include a fascinating figure that teeters between evil and now really very evil, whose gallantry and malice immediately cast a spell over the audience.’ 

Georg Nigl is now celebrating another Wagner role debut at Easter, playing Klingsor in Parsifal at the Tyrolean Festival Erl under the musical direction of Asher Fisch, in a new production by Austrian director Philipp M. Krenn.

Nigl is certainly not a ‘typical Wagner singer’ and that is precisely why he will make his mark on the role of Klingsor.
