IDA ALDRIAN in Mahler's 2nd Symphony with the Osnabrücker Symphony Orchestra

‘One is beaten to the ground with clubs and then lifted to the highest heights on angels' parakeets’, wrote Gustav Mahler about his Symphony No. 2. Everything comes together in this music: Folk song and high literature, childlike faith and metaphysical speculation. In both works, it is the hope for a better world that comes to the fore in this programme and is needed today more than ever.

"Hope" is also the title of the 7th symphony concert in the current season of the Osnabrück Symphony Orchestra, in which the Austrian mezzo-soprano Ida Aldrian will take on the solo alto part under GMD Andreas Hotz in the Osnabrück Europahalle on 12 May. The day before, as a permanent ensemble member of the Hamburg State Opera, she will take part in a chamber concert in the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie and will be heard together with the Amaris Quartet in Schumann's Dichterliebe in the arrangement for voice and string quartet by Wim ten Have.
