IRIS VERMILLION at the Vienna State Opera

Elektra marks the beginning of a long and fruitful collaboration between two genius partners, Richard Strauss and Hugo von Hofmannsthal. The one-act opera – first performed in 1909 – recounts a mythical family story oscillating between guilt and revenge, redemption and downfall. After her impressive portrayal of Herodias in Richard Strauss’ Salome last season, Iris Vermillion continues her interpretations of the composer’s mezzo-soprano roles at the Vienna State Opera, singing the role of Klytämnestra in Elektra on October 22 and 25. The singer, who will also perform this role at one of the so-called “Strauss Weekends 2019” at the Leipzig Opera, thereby makes her role debut at the opera house on Vienna’s Ring.
