JAN PETRYKA in Leonard Evers' "Gold!" at the Salzburg Festival

Everything could be much nicer, bigger and better! — Jakob, son of the fisherman and his wife, has caught something. The fish makes wishes come true, granting Jakob and his parents shoes, a bed, a house — what a stroke of luck for the poor family! But the more they get, the more dissatisfied the parents become, wanting more and more and more… and when Jakob returns to the beach and calls for the fish, the sea becomes ever more turbulent.

Supported by percussionist Vivi Vassileva, tenor Jan Petryka embodies the role of Jakob in Leonard Evers' new composition “Gold!” for tenor and percussion. Based on the fairy tale The Fisherman and His Wife by the Brothers Grimm, the work will be presented on four selected afternoons as part of the Salzburg Festival.
