In an impressive physical and artistic endeavour last season, tenor Julian Prégardien took to venues of all kinds, large and small, in the “Schubert” city of Vienna to bring the timeless Lied cycle Die schöne Müllerin to all audiences. Its overwhelming success led Prégardien to consider the impact of Lied on a broader-reaching scale: when the concept of Liedstadt was born.
The song in all its forms spans people, cities, centuries. And yet it needs more attention in our everyday lives, our society and our age. The song in all its forms should be brought back into focus. ‘Liedstadt’ sees its task as making the experience of song as diverse and immersive as possible through unique concert formats.
Throughout the first two weeks of October 2024, audiences can expect an array of events, from concerts, recitals and free-entry performances, to meet and greets and workshops – all across the first Liedstadt of Hamburg.
