MAURO PETER in Bayreuth, Salzburg and Lübeck

A welcome guest in Salzburg, Mauro Peter appeared not only at this year’s Mozart Week, but also returns to the Salzburg Festival this summer, where he appears in two Mozart Matinees under the baton of Raphaël Pichon and in a song recital featuring works by Schubert and Richard Strauss, in which he is accompanied by his regular partner at the piano, Helmut Deutsch.

At the beginning of the month, the Swiss tenor performs in the German premiere of the opera seria Antigono by Gluck at the International Gluck Festival in Bayreuth. During the opera reformer’s lifetime, this work’s premiere in Rome helped him gain the title of “Knight of the Golden Spur”, which he bore with pride for the rest of his life. More than 250 years after the first performance in 1756, this concert performance forms the highlight of this year’s festival.

At the end of August, Bach’s St. Matthew Passion will be performed in a different manner than usual: Mauro Peter joins Olivia Vermeulen as soloists at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, where the Passion will be heard in the rarely-performed 1841 version by Felix Mendelssohn. The Bach expert Masaaki Suzuki leads the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra.
