MAURO PETER makes his American debut

After Mauro Peter performed the role of Andres in Alban Berg’s Wozzeck in a staged production at the 2017 Salzburg Festival, he now appears in this role in three concert performances at Symphony Hall in Boston and Carnegie Hall in New York. These concerts mark Mauro Peter’s US debut. His tenor, notable for its suppleness up to the highest regions and its noble timbre, is ideally suited to this part.

With Berg’s modernist masterpiece, Andris Nelsons and the Boston Symphony Orchestra continue the orchestra’s tradition of presenting great operas in concert.
Premiered in 1925, Wozzeck is based on a dramatic fragment by Georg Büchner (1836), describing the hopelessness of human existence in the face of pre-determined circumstance. Using a kaleidoscopic variety of musical means, Berg tells the story of the simple soldier who falls victim to the pathological meanness of those surrounding him, is forced into submission by social misery, lost to madness and destroyed by his betrayal by his child’s mother.

The performance with Mauro Peter as Andres will be broadcast live by Radio Classic Boston on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 8 pm EST (2 am CET).
