MAURO PETER sings Mahler's "Das Lied von der Erde"

Mauro Peter sings the tenor role in Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde for the first time as part of the Allegro Vivo festival in the breathtaking settings of Göttweig Abbey and Altenburg Abbey, among others. 

This important work by Mahler was composed in 1908/1909, is based on Chinese poetry that was translated into German and combines symphonic and song-like elements. The tenor part in Das Lied von der Erde demands a broad vocal spectrum, from powerful, dramatic passages to tender, lyrical moments. Great vocal flexibility and expressiveness are required - sometimes it is dramatic and powerful, at other times a floating, dreamlike character or a clear, bright sound and playful, charming interpretation is called for.
