OLIVIA VERMEULEN | "Compassion" with the Budapest Festival Orchestra under Iván Fischer

In this new type of Passion, Fischer augmented this original thinking with his own ideas in a production that has already been presented with great success in Amsterdam. Replacing the scenes omitted from the Saint Matthew Passion will be interludes of classical music, and even folk sounds, jazz, choral works and video clips that in terms of their content intersect with Bach's messages. It's the same gist, but with more victims and several stories of suffering incorporated into a single evening: this is the essence of Iván Fischer's constantly shifting concept, which is strictly tuned to the present.

A regular guest with the orchestra, Olivia Vermeulen will this time sing alongside the Cantemus Mixed Choir and an array of interational soloists, kicking off with their first concert in Amsterdam at the Concertgebouw on 20 March. The group will then take the performance to BOZAR in Brussels on 21 March, and lastly to the BFO’s home city at the Palace of the Arts Budapest for a row of three consecutive concerts on 24, 25 and 26 March.

This new take on Bach’s masterpiece is surely one not to be missed!
