Together with fellow Machreich Artist Manuel Walser, Dutch mezzo-soprano Olivia Vermeulen joins the Concert des Nations and La Capella Nacional de Catalunya under their conductor Jordi Savall. This isn’t the first time Vermeulen has collaborated with the renowned Catalonian conductor and her fellow soloists, having previously performed another of Beethoven’s mighty works, the Missa Solemnis, together with the same soloists in Barcelona, Paris and the Dresden Music Festival last year. The musical collaboration garnered critical acclaim in its recording on disc with Alia Vox, with the “Vibrato and coloration of voices, solo and choral, especially well matched with each other and with the instrumental resources” (Gramophone Magazine).
The symphony's themes - joy, unity and triumph over adversity - continue to resonate with audiences around the world, more so than ever in recent times.
In mid-August, Olivia Vermeulen will be in San Sebastián, Spain, where she will perform Mozart's Requiem with the Budapest Festival Orchestra under Iván Fischer as part of the Quincena Musical - another successful artistic collaboration that continues in the coming season.
