OLIVIA VERMEULEN | Role debut as Idamante in Mozart's "Idomeneo"

Following the Da Ponte trilogy and joint appearances as Cherubino, Dorabella and Donna Elvira, the Dutch mezzo-soprano is expanding her Mozart repertoire to include another central role in her repertoire and can now be heard for the first time as Idamante with the Freiburger Barockorchester under the direction of René Jacobs at the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, among others.

Idomeneo is unique in Mozart's oeuvre. On the one hand, the opera still bears the basic structure of the traditional opera seria, while on the other, with its extensive choral numbers, it already points to the future. This is one of the reasons why it is so popular with Mozart fans.
