The young Austrian mezzo-soprano Patricia Nolz starts the new season with a wonderful program of arias by the two great masters Mozart & Haydn. In a concert as part of the "Harnoncourt-Tage" she will perform Haynd's "Scena di Berenice" together with the Concentus Musicus under the baton of Stefan Gottfried. Joseph Haydn composed the Scena di Berenice during the second of his two visits to London for the most famous prima donna of the time. This aria became one of the great concert arias of the eighteenth century. The first section of the scene mixes free dramatic recitative and short ariosos, and the work ends with a dramatic aria in F minor - a bravura piece for any mezzo-soprano.
As another core piece of the mezzo repertoire, Patricia Nolz has chosen the "Laudamus Te" from Mozart's magnificent, unfinished "Missa in c" K. 427, which not only impresses for its monumentality and musical beauty. Patricia Nolz concludes the programme with Haydn's aria "Deh soccorri un'infelice" from the opera "La fedeltà premiata" - an almost perfect transition to Mozart's "Haffner Symphony".
