One of the most haunting works of the 20th century is Francis Poulenc's opera Dialogues des Carmélites. At the end of 2013, the year that marked the 50th anniversary of Francis Poulenc's death, his poignant and moving operatic masterpiece was staged in Paris by director Olivier Py with some of France's best singers - Patricia Petibon, Véronique Gens, Sandrine Piau and Sophie Koch - under the direction of Jérémie Rohrer. Le Figaro described the production as ‘a marvel’ and Le Monde hailed it ‘a masterpiece... the most exciting and successful production to be seen on a Parisian stage for a long time ... It was a great work, masterful and unforgettable.’
Patricia Petibon, who shone in the role of Blanche at the top of this all-star cast back then and also in the 2018 revival, is now switching to Mère Marie, who was previously played by Sophie Koch. The American Karina Canellakis will conduct this revival, with the musicians of Les Siècles in the pit.
