SABINE DEVIEILHE sings Sophie in Strauss' Rosenkavalier at La Scala in Milan

Sabine Devieilhe starts the new season with one of her favourite roles: as Sophie in Richard Strauss' Rosenkavalier, the charismatic French singer returns to the Teatro alla Scala, where she was last celebrated as Zerbinetta.

Der Rosenkavalier is touching in its special mixture of wistfulness and pain, sadness and humour, with which Hugo von Hofmannsthal imbued the libretto and which Richard Strauss set to music enchantingly. Sabine Devieilhe’s ethereal, silvery soprano is a perfect fit for the lively, charming role of Sophie.

Sabine Devieilhe has shown that the music of Richard Strauss suits her particularly well in her latest Mozart/Strauss album, which was highly praised by the press and honoured with numerous awards. Her interpretations are captivating not only because of the beauty of her tone, but also because of the sensuality and warmth in her voice and her great respect for the score and text.
