We are delighted to announce that we have taken over general management for the Korean soprano Sumi Hwang.
Celebrated in Korea as a rising star, the winner of the 2014 Concours Reine Elisabeth and accomplished opera, concert and recital performer has been garnering attention on European stages lately as well. In addition to her performances at the Bonn Theatre, where she was a regular ensemble member through the 2017/2018 season, singing roles such as Fiordiligi, Pamina, Leïla, Micaëla, Mimì and Liù, she has appeared as a soloist with orchestras such as the Staatskapelle Dresden, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Munich Symphony Orchestra and the Netherlands Radio Orchestra.
As a recitalist, Sumi Hwang works regularly with Helmut Deutsch, who will also accompany her on her first solo album, scheduled for release in 2019 and featuring works by Franz Liszt, Benjamin Britten and Richard Strauss.
Her plans for the 2018/2019 season include her debut at the Hessian State Theatre Wiesbaden, where she sings Donna Anna in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, a role she has also been engaged to sing at the end of the season at her former home base, the Bonn Opera. Furthermore, Sumi Hwang appears as Mimì in Puccini’s La Bohème at the opera house in Daegu in 2018/2019. As a soloist in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, she makes her debut with the Orchestra of the Vienna Academy, which will take her both to the Main Auditorium of Vienna’s Musikverein and to Korea.
We look forward to many fascinating projects with this promising artist!
