MARIE-SOPHIE POLLAK bei den Magdeburger Telemann-Festtagen

After a two-year delay due to the pandemic, Georg Philipp Telemann's comic intermezzo Pimpinone oder Die ungleiche Heirat will be performed at this year's Magdeburg Telemann Festival, with Marie-Sophie Pollak taking on the role of Vespetta. She will be accompanied by the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin under Georg Kallweit, with Sandra Leupold being responsible for the scenic realisation.

In Telemann's "intermezzo giocoso" Pimpinone, the relationship between Vespetta and Pimpinone is told in three stages in an exaggerated and, in the end, even tragicomic manner. Vespetta takes the initiative because she wants to free herself from her dependence as a maid. She succeeds in this, for in her search for employment she meets the rich idler Pimpinone who falls in love with her. With his music, Telemann portrays the protagonists and the situations in which they act with as much vividness as subtlety; he confidently unfolds the entire spectrum of his art of characterisation.
