Nikola Hillebrand’s voice has been praised for its “flexibility and luminosity, which seem to scarcely have boundaries”, for the “ apparently effortless perfection” of her art and the brilliance of her coloratura, which “seems the simplest thing in the world”. Reviews of her concerts and performances of the past year reveal pure enthusiasm. Early in the new year, Hillebrand dedicates herself particularly to Richard Strauss’ song repertoire.
After her acclaimed house debut at the Hamburg State Opera, where she sang not only Pamina as scheduled, but also jumped in to perform the role of Adele to great enthusiasm, January sees her first concert in Norway, where she joins the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra under Fabien Gabel in orchestral songs by Richard Strauss. This is followed by a song recital as part of the Schubert Week at the Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlin, where she is joined by Helmut Deutsch at the piano.
In February, she makes her song debut at the Essen Philharmonie together with pianist Alexander Fleischer; her first song recital at London’s Wigmore Hall follows.
The programme includes the song cycle Mädchenblumen as well as other selected songs by Richard Strauss, Johannes Brahms and Franz Schubert, all focusing on the subject of love.
